THURSDAY WORKSHOPS
BOUNCING BACK AND BOUNCING FORWARD: GROWTH IN TIMES OF HARDSHIP - BOB VANDEPOL
Does that which doesn’t kill me make me stronger? Sometimes. Organizations and the people within them demonstrate widely disparate outcomes in the aftermath of tragedies. Some are permanently impaired and remain victims of the hardship while others operationalize resilience skills and practices that lead to successful bouncing back or even bouncing forward. Starting with Scripture and borrowing from God’s wisdom as present in studies on trauma, grief, resilience, and post-traumatic growth, this presentation will identify the characteristics and practices of people and organizations who emerge from hardship with growth and strength.
YOUR GRIEF: FACING YOUR GRIEF WHEN OTHERS WANT TO LOOK AWAY - SUSAN VANDEPOL
Walking your own unique grief journey intentionally, Biblically, victoriously and unapologetically, allowing God to prune your grief according to His will, for His glory, as He heals and transforms.
CONFLICT TO THE GLORY OF GOD - MIKE WILCOX
YOU UNDOUBTEDLY HAVE ALREADY REALIZED THAT EVEN MISSIONARIES EXPERIENCE CONFLICT. IN THIS SESSION WE'LL EXPLORE HOW CONFLICT, NAVIGATED IN A GODLY WAY, CAN BUILD AND ENHANCE RELATIONSHIPS RATHER THAN TEAR THEM DOWN.
FIVE C’S THAT DEFINE MISSIONARY KIDS AND THIRD CULTURE KIDS - MICHÉLE PHOENIX
To love TCKs well, we need to see the world through their unique perspective. Whether you have MKs at home, are empty nesters, or live alongside them in community, this workshop will help you to understand what you see in them and equip you to more fully and thoughtfully come alongside them.
ENGAGING THE NATIONS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS - JEFF JACKSON
Whether they come as international students, workers, or refugees, our Missionary God has sovereignly orchestrated moving people from around the world into our communities and neighborhoods. This workshop will help you to grasp why He has placed them in you and your church's sphere of influence, provide foundational facts about each category of immigrant, and impart a few proven strategies for engaging them with His love and the truth of the Gospel.
FRIDAY WORKSHOPS
Leadership in Times of Crisis - Bob VandePol
When tragedy strikes the church or the community within which it ministers - a fatal accident, violence, death by suicide, abuse, moral failure, a pandemic, war, or natural disaster - all eyes immediately look to its leadership for direction. How those leaders respond offers both tremendous opportunity and serious risk for the subsequent outcomes. This focus is further intensified in Christian organizations as those internal to the church and observers from the community scrutinize carefully to see if faith in God truly makes a difference in these “real life” situations. This presentation will address crisis leadership skills that support individual and organizational resilience.
Their Grief: What to Do, When You Don’t Know What to Do - Susan VandePol
How to lovingly and effectively come alongside others who are grieving, including ideas on how to inoffensively honor their loss and facilitate their healing.
Transitions: A Bridge to Stability - Mike Wilcox
The missionary life and calling put us in a state of near constant transition - the unending comings, goings, goodbyes and hellos. In this session we'll explore what transitions do to us and how we can experience spiritual, emotional and relational stability, even while constantly on the move.
The Impact of Grief and Trauma on the Lives and Faith of MKs - Michéle Phoenix
Grief and trauma can be integral parts of the missionary and MK experience. Where adults might process them adequately, children and teens often internalize them, which can lead to long-term consequences that might have been preventable with clearer understanding and proactive intervention. We'll explore the forms of grief/trauma MKs experience, their impact on mental health and faith, and the truth that MKs can still find healing even after they've become adults.
